Delany: Big Ten expects title game in 2011

08/03/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jim Delany, commissioner of the Big Ten, expects the new-look conference to hold a football championship game following the 2011 season.

The Big Ten was among the many conferences that recently helped change the landscape of collegiate athletics, adding perennial power Nebraska to the fold back in June, the first new member since Penn State joined 20 years ago. The move comes into effect on July 1, 2011.

The addition has the conference sporting 12 teams, causing a change in scheduling and the inevitability of a long sought-after championship game, though a location for that contest has yet to be determined.

"It's been a very exciting year, I think a productive year, a year in which we made a historic decision to expand the conference," Delany said in Monday's press conference. "I presume we'll have a championship game. I think that's the direction we're going in. And I hope that within the next 30 to 45 days we'll have a divisional structure identified."

Delany also stated he anticipates each team playing nine conference games instead of the eight contested previously.

The commissioner also ended speculation that Notre Dame is still on the horizon to join the conference.

"I don't see [Notre Dame] as a player, really. I think [Notre Dame athletic director] Jack Swarbrick has been consistent from the beginning about their commitment to the Big East and their commitment to independence," Delany said. "I see Notre Dame playing as an independent in football for many years to come."

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.

Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback.  It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.
